·
  •   Ice pick scars
These scars are very narrow and can extend deep into the dermis. The appearance of the skin is as if a sharp instrument or an ice pick has pierced it. These seem to create several small, deep holes in the skin. Some of the common treatment for ice pick scars include treatment with punch grafting or punch excision.
  • ·  Rolling scars
Rolling scars cause rolling, that is, wavelike depressions across the skin. They are best treated with subcision. Subcision is a widely used surgical procedure which involves cutting the base of the scar in order to level the whole portion of the skin.
  • ·  Hypertrophic/Keloid scars
Hypertrophic or keloid scars look like a firm, raised mass of tissue. These often grow larger than the original wound. Steroid creams, pulsed dye laser treatments, silicone gels are some of the common treatments. One can also opt for cryotherapy, which involves the use of liquid nitrogen to freeze the scars.
  • ·  Hyperpigmentation scars
Dark spots or discolouration caused by acne-related inflammation are referred to as hyperpigmentation scars. They are best treated with sunblock since exposure to the sun can worsen hyperpigmentation. 4 percent hydroquinone, which is a topical bleaching agent, can also be applied directly over the dark spots to reduce them.
