6 Habits That Are Bad for Your Skin
A healthy skin is your biggest asset – it makes you feel
good and boosts your self-confidence. However, some of our day-to-day habits we
might not think of can adversely affect the quality of our skin over the period
of time. In order to maintain a glowing skin, there are few habits you need to
get rid of.
Below mentioned is the list of the habits you should avoid
to keep your skin’s complexion on track as well as some skin health tips:
1. Excess Sugar
As per a 2013 study, people with high blood
sugar levels aged faster compared to the ones with low blood sugar levels.
Excess sugar is also known to cause skin problems like acne. Be careful while
selecting your food products and check the amount of sugar present in it.
2. Drinking Less Water
Water is the one solution for most of our
skin problems. But, many people have a bad habit of not hydrating enough due to
more frequent urination. Water helps in transporting nutrients to the right
place along with flushing out the useless impurities our body doesn’t require.
3. Smoking
It has been scientifically proven that
nicotine reduces the blood flow to the skin thereby not allowing it to get
sufficient oxygen and essential nutrients. As per leading Dermatologists, the chemicals
present in the tobacco can significantly damage the collagen and elastin
proteins which provide the skin its structure.
4. Not Applying Sunscreen
Everyone loves the sun. It is a go to place
for people during winter time. However, the harmful Ultraviolet rays of the sun
are known to cause both premature aging and skin cancer. Use a minimum SPF 30
sunscreen and reapply every 2-3 hours. Make sure you don’t just use it when
you’re out on the beach, it should be applied even during cold and cloudy weather.
5. Too Harsh on Pimples
Many of us have a tendency of popping out an
acne because we want it to disappear for good. While the excitement of seeing a
pimple-free face ASAP is justified, you should know that this can result in
scars and infections. You should apply some of the best products for acne, like
acne soap, acne gel, etc. to get rid of acne as well as prevent acne scars.
6. Sleeping Conditions
First things first, getting a healthy sleep
is most important for a healthy skin. Secondly, the pillowcase you rest on
collects all the dead skin cells, bacteria, oil and night creams. As you take
turns on the bed during sleep, all of that gets deposited into your pores.
Avoid using rough pillowcases as they are known to cause wrinkles, opt for
smoother materials like silk or satin.
Getting rid of these bad habits will prevent
you from premature aging and give you a healthier skin. Remember, a glowing skin
is the biggest gift you can give yourself.
