What is the Difference between Anxiety and Worry?

To figure out the differences between anxiety and worry, we need to first understand what both the conditions mean.
Anxiety
Anxiety is a general term used for some disorders that may cause nervousness or fear. These disorders may affect how we feel and can cause physical pain.
Worry
This is a term used when people think about problems and/or unpleasant things, and how they might end up affecting them. Worry can end up making someone feel unhappy or frightened.
To put the two in simple words; worrying is a feeling that compels us to be careful in our decision-making while anxiety can end up making us afraid and not take the decision altogether.

Differences between Anxiety and Worry

1.       Worry happens in our mind whereas anxiety can affect our body
Worry is psychological in the sense that it affects our decision-making and makes us rethink our decision whereas anxiety is more visceral as we can literally feel it throughout our body.

2.       Worry is specific while anxiety can be spread over many things
For instance, people might worry about whether they will be able to catch their flight on time or not, but they can feel anxious about travelling altogether.

3.       Worry triggers a problem-solving response in us whereas anxiety does no such thing
Worrying about something will cause our brain to look for a solution to the problem. Being anxious about something will lead our brain to stop working and not produce any solution.

4.       Worry is temporary while Anxiety can be long-term
Worrying about something doesn’t have long-lasting effects on our brain whereas being anxious about something can cause us severe emotional distress.

5.       We can control worry but barely control anxiety
By looking for a solution, our brain can control worrying about problems but it’s very difficult to control anxiousness as it goes beyond just the mind and affects the whole body.

How can you Overcome Anxiety?

Always Think Positive
Finding yourself thinking of problems like “I can’t do this” and “this is beyond my control” will only make you feel more anxious. Think of how you can overcome the barriers that are stopping you from doing a particular task, and then do it.

Identify and Solve
Identifying the situations that make you feel anxious and approaching them with a positive attitude will lead you to tackle that situation in a better manner in future.
While the pharma industry in India has come a long way in the last few years, having a positive attitude and staying physically active can help you keep both these problems at bay.
